Problem Description

The definition of RF component electromagnetics has evolved to include a very wide frequency band and a wide range of component functions. Frequency bands that are associated with waveguide range from 0.32 GHz to 110 GHz and components that can be built using waveguide technology include:

  • Filters
  • Circulators
  • Isolators
  • Attenuators
  • Loads
  • Mixers
  • Amplifiers

All of these components have highly specialised synthesis techniques which are applied during their design process. The drawback to using waveguide or finline is that it is expensive to manufacture. A good simulation process is therefor required to validate and optimise designs before prototypes are manufactured.
