Waveguide Components

Rectangular to Circular Waveguide Transition

Waveguide components operate over a very wide frequency band and with a wide range of functions. Frequency bands associated with waveguide range from 0.32 GHz to 110 GHz and components include:

  • Filters
  • Circulators
  • Directional couplers
  • Power dividers
  • Diplexers and multiplexers
  • Mixers
  • Isolators
  • Amplifiers
  • Attenuators
  • Loads

These components are designed using specialised synthesis techniques, of which simulation can be an integral part.

FEKO is well suited to the simulation and optimisation of waveguide components. Applicable features of FEKO include:

  • Waveguide port excitations
  • 2D solver for arbitrary transverse port geometries
  • FEM solver which is very effective for predominantly closed problems (e.g. waveguide structure with ports)
  • S-parameter calculation
  • Near-field visualisation of the field internal to components
  • Adaptive Frequency Sampling (AFS) to minimise time spent on frequency sweeps
FEKO also interfaces with FEST3D, an efficient  software tool for the accurate analysis of passive waveguide components that  is capable of considering high power effects in the design process.  The two-way interface between FEKO and FEST3D allows mode data and scattering matrices to be exchanged for further analysis.
