Prediction of VHF Radiation Patterns on Gulfstream Aircraft

Christopher A. Penwell

Gulfstream Aerospace

FEKO has been used at Gulfstream Aerospace to perform electromagnetic computational analysis to gain further insight into the performance of VHF communication systems on business jet airframes. In the past, placement of antennas had typically been accomplished through similarity, or scale model field tests that were done on similar types of structures. But over time the shape and size of these aircrafts have changed. Also, the location and the number of VHF systems have increased. It is desirable to revisit the current location of these antennas and look for ways to predict the effects of relocating these antennas through EM simulation tools such as FEKO, prior to field testing.
