CADFEKO Curve Primitive Geometry Functions to Create a Reduced-Drag, Low-Profile Wideband Antenna

CADFEKO curve primitive geometry functions are utilized to modify a wideband, low-profile communication antenna for an aviation application. A wideband, low-profile, top-loaded antenna with a cylindrical symmetry is designed for L-band (1-2 GHz) using canonical shapes to generate the conducting surfaces of the structure. An equivalent model is generated using the polyline and loft curve primitive geometry functions to validate the model construction. An elliptical model is then designed to satisfy form-factor limitations. As an aviation antenna, the antenna has a reduced drag profile, an overall height of hTOT ≈ λLOW/12, and an impedance bandwidth (return loss > 10 dB) of 3.3:1.
