Broadband electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) structure is presented using progressive mushroom-like structure with different patch sizes. The reflection phase of the progressive EBG structure is simulated and compared with the uniform EBG structure to find the improvement in the band gap. Both EBG structures are loaded inside the cavity of a spiral antenna and their performance is compared with an unloaded back cavity and no back cavity cases.
