Uniform Circular Array Active Element Radiation Patterns, FEKO Predictions Vs. Measurements
Craig Birtcher and Constantine A. Balanis
Department of Electrical Engineering, Arizona State University, USA
Smart antenna technology is an ongoing topic of research at ASU. The current focus is exploring the possible advantages of circular and spherical topologies over traditional rectangular arrays. An eight-element “virtual” Uniform Circular Array (UCA) was designed and constructed, and the azimuthal radiation pattern of its active element was measured. The UCA was also modeled and simulated using FEKO. Excellent agreement is obtained between the measurement and the FEKO-predicted radiation patterns of this structure.
