This paper presents a simulative approach to apply electromagnetic solvers to an automotive scenario. Results of the field distribution and the shadowing of the car body in a vehicular environment are presented. For this purpose, an antenna model is placed at different positions inside the vehicle and the reception level is simulated by an ideal receiving antenna in the vicinity of the vehicle. The calculated electromagnetic field in the surroundings of the vehicle is visualized by respective polar graphs in terms of path-loss presentation. Electromagnetic results are computed by means of 3D electromagnetics simulations using the multilevel fast multipole method (MLFMM). The simulations are preceded by a measurement campaign with which the simulated results will be compared later.
