The Friis formula has been widely used to calculate the link budget in wireless communications due to its effectiveness in practice and simplicity in calculation. Extensive studies have been performed to present appropriate models to estimate the power transmission level between two antennas in communications. The evaluation of the formula, however, has rarely been implemented using full-wave simulations and measurements, especially in the far-field region. In this paper, a comprehensive study of the Friis formula is performed through both full-wave simulations and measurements in various scenarios.
