The aim of the communication is to compare the patterns of an S band low gain antenna obtained with measurements and three completely different electromagnetic software tools. The antenna, designed and patented by Saab Ericsson Aerospace, will be operating on the ESA satellite GOCE. The three electromagnetic codes are the Ansoft HFSS, based on Finite Element Method (FEM), the CST Microwave Studio tool, based on Finite Integration algorithm in the time domain (FIT), and the FEKO tool, based on the Method of Moments (MoM). The results of the three tools generate results quite close to the measurements. However, for the selected test case, FEKO appears slightly more accurate than the other two. Concerning the other two softwares, CST Microwave seems slightly more accurate than HFSS but the differences are small.
