Real-world electromagnetic problems are becoming increasingly complex, so that the natural growth in computer power over time is not sufficient any more to keep pace with these requirements. Therefore, in addition to traditional solver techniques like FDTD, FEM or MoM also so-called fast algorithms find their way into commercial EM solver packages. In this contribution, we shall discuss some aspects regarding the implementation and parallelization of the Multilevel Fast Multipole Method (MLFMM, see for instance [1, 2, 3]) in the commercial field solver FEKO [4]. Typically, within the academic research environment, a specific problem or some more or less well-defined class of problems are given, and then solution algorithms for these are developed, and mostly the resulting computer code is then also used by the researcher himself who understands well both the algorithm and also its various parameters.
